Wire in the hands of Secondary Art School Students
ÚĽUV’s material theme for 2026 is wire and wire-working. This craft, which Slovaks made famous throughout the world in the 19th century, was inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019 under the title ‘Drotárstvo – remeslo a umenie’. It is against this backdrop that this exhibition has been conceived, showcasing a project by three secondary art schools (ŠUP Bratislava, Ružomberok and Banská Štiavnica), and in particular their design departments, whose students took part last year in a series of workshops with professional wire-workers organised by ÚĽUV. Thanks to the guidance of their teachers and the new skills they acquired, they breathed their own designs and original forms into the wire. The ÚĽUV Design Studio in Bratislava invites you to explore the synergy between traditional Slovak craftsmanship and the free-thinking spirit of the younger generation. The exhibition at Dobrovičova 13, running from 2 October to 6 November 2026, will offer a deeper insight into how contemporary art can build on cultural heritage.
