Trees (firs in particular) forms root anastomosis, meaning they are connected together. And so if one of the trees is cut down, the others are able to keep its stump alive. Such a stump begins to produce a special tissue where the fibres grow in three-dimensional spirals, making them difficult to split or break. In Slovakia, this type of stump is called “svor”.
