Thrown on a potter’s (spinning) wheel, the edge carved with a knife or using piercing tools in diagonals in multiple rows, the perimeter is trimmed into arches. Once fired, the shard is coated with a white covering tin glaze, onto which a monochromatic (or colored, outlined) design is painted with majolica colors on the bottom of the plate, and lines are drawn along the edge of the plate between the diagonals forming a lattice. The bottom and edge are circled with one or two lines. It is fired a second time in a pottery kiln. Various decor variants.
