The early 1990s with its change in economic conditions was a complicated period for the Centre for Folk Art Production (ÚĽUV). Before 1989, the institution made use of the principle of contemporary artistic creation, which incorporated the research of ethnologists, the skill of master producers and the vision of designers, primarily to ensure the sale of products. The loss of the monopoly and sales points in the new economic era, however, legitimately led to ÚĽUV’s management reassessing its operations to date. Bringing ÚĽUV’s activities closer to the public seemed to be a logical step. We can include the festival “ÚĽUV Master Craftsman Days” are one successful example of this decision.
