The city of fashion yesterday and today

The city of fashion yesterday and today

Eva Olexíková

For many years, Trenčín was known as the ‘city of fashion’, although the golden times of the Slovak textile and clothing industry are long gone. The ‘Odevné závody Trenčín’ company was one of our main industrial companies. It exported first-class tailored suits, trousers and coats to the whole of Europe and across the Atlantic without a break from 1940 until 2007, when it stopped production in its last branch in Tornaľa (Revúca district). Today, all that remains in Trenčín of this business, shaped by disciples of the Neher school, is some dilapited buildings.
