Peter Strassner is a graduate of the University of Fine Arts, department of relief sculpture. Although at first he devoted his talents to creating sculptural figures, modelling portraits and designs for medals, since 1986 he has turned his attention to creating furniture. He started with chairs, and then proceeded to designs and production for the interiors of social areas such as restaurants and pubs. Apart from traditional wood turning technologies and lathing, he uses the old technology of inlaying zinc into wood. He blackens the wood for such furniture by burning, and this is intended to be used as outdoor furniture. He designs chairs as garden objects and solitaires that take the form of a sculpture but at the same time have a utilitarian purpose. He strives to elevate his creations to the level of sculpture.
