Teaching crafts for the new millennium

Teaching crafts for the new millennium

Twenty-five years of systematic activity by the ÚĽUV School of Crafts is sure to raise questions about the strengths and weaknesses of its chosen path. The link between craft education and ÚĽUV is quite sound in Slovakia. Over the course of its eighty years of existence, ÚĽUV has concentrated in a single place an incredible wealth of knowledge, which remains even today a source of inspiration for the practical teaching of traditional crafts and their development in creative work. The activities of the ÚĽUV School of Crafts currently operate in three regional craft centres: Bratislava, Banská Bystrica and Košice. The centres’ directors have recently been granted even greater powers to create the content for these activities and shape the communities within their regions. For this reason, their own words best describe the current situation and developments within the craft education that ÚĽUV offers today through its School of Crafts.
