The anniversary of the Centre for Folk (and) Art Production became an impulse for the preparation of a publication which would systematically map out its roots, history, activity and important figures. As the editor Zuzana Dedík Šidlíková writes, the “history of ÚĽUV is connected to the history of Czechoslovakia, it is a reflection of the post-war chaos, the great ambitions of economic renewal, unexpected fusions, huge investments to support centralisation and the technological restoration of craft workshops and the fatal problems of nationalisation processes, and later those of privatisation. Mapping out folk tradition through field research was ÚĽUV’s basic mission, but it was followed by an even more important one: to bring back to life this story for needs of contemporary people.”
