Joseph Boďa’s father weaved willow branches into square baskets for potatoes and oval filfasy for sale as a young boy while tending to the cows. Ultimately, his father’s example led him to pursue basket weaving as well, even though he initially had little interest in it. Today, Joseph’s workshop in the village of Čechy is his creative oasis, where he skillfully crafts a variety of baskets from natural materials, including straw, reeds, and even unconventional materials like pine needles and lavender. His commitment to environmentally friendly materials and innovative techniques has earned him recognition, including participation in the prestigious exhibition “Tradition Unconventionally: Natural Fibers” at the Slovak Craft Center. His dedication to his craft and collaboration with young designers highlight his passion for continuing the tradition of Slovak basket weaving.
