Civil engineer Mikuláš Derevjaník got into wireworking through a visit to the Považské Museum in Žilina and its exhibition on wireworking. He was disappointed not to find information on Spiš wireworkers nor any exhibits there, as his own father had worked as a wireworker for a time and had traveled with this occupation in Romania. Wireworking was a current topic in the family, as Jarabina has been known for wireworking since the early 19th century (Čaplovič, 1821). He began intensively researching and documenting wireworking, and in order to better understand wireworking techniques, he first began to learn and then work with wire and sheet metal himself.

The culmination of his work is the upcoming publication on Spiš wireworkers, which he would like to release in the coming years. In 2007, he co-authored a monograph on his native village of Jarabina, where he also covered a section on wireworking.

Currently, wireworking and its documentation are his hobbies. He strives to preserve the authenticity of the production assortment and techniques of wireworkers from Jarabina, which he also wants to implement through courses.

He demonstrated wireworking at the open-air museums in Nowy Sącz and Prudnik in Poland, where he met over 400 craftsmen from the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia.
