Lucia Dovalová is a trained chemical engineer from FCHPT STU BA and also a graduate of fine arts studies at UMB BB. She grew up in a beautiful village beneath Vepor, in the Malohont region, in Klenovec. She dedicated a certain period of her life to school, teaching, and youth, to pass on what she knows and loves. The combination of two amazing worlds, areas of chemistry and fine arts, eventually led to a unique project called Modrotlač, to which she has been devoted from 2015 to the present. Modrotlač is an ancient fabric dyeing technique that requires knowledge of both chemistry and art, as well as many skills. Through available documents and materials, study, and experiments, she has managed to elevate her creation of Modrotlač to a level that corresponds with the real principles of professional fabric dyeing. Her original creation based on the principle of Modrotlač, patterned and painted by hand, is designed and sewn in her own workshop. Her intention and goal are for Modrotlač not to become just an object of historical-artistic research again after its small revival in recent years, but to remain a real and current part of life – both artistic and practical. Means to achieve this include workshops, seminars, and other professional events, presentations, which she carries out in collaboration with other organizations focused on similar projects. She collaborates with institutions like Amavet, with O.Z. Vedecká hračka, with Kúzelná fyzika, with regional and educational centers and museums as a workshop instructor, and with ÚĽUV since 2017 as a fabric dyer, and from 2022 as an instructor.
