He has been weaving baskets since he was fourteen years old. He didn’t learn from any basket maker, he’s self-taught, deriving his weaving method from the baskets in the household. At that time, there were basket makers in the village and the surrounding area, and some of them weren’t very pleased that he started weaving, saying he would create competition for them. And so it was – people found out he weaves, and he sold some baskets here and there, even to the cooperative that was established at the time and needed two-handled baskets for harvesting. Throughout his life, he weaves baskets from unpeeled wicker. He grows the wicker on his own land since he started weaving. He grows them from the top, not from the root, without distinguishing willow varieties, rather it is important for him that they don’t break and have different colors – from yellow through orange, brown, pale green, to brown… During his active life, when he worked as a turner, he didn’t weave baskets much, he became more active in his retirement years. He has no difficulty shaping any kind of basket – but focuses primarily on utility baskets for agricultural work or crates for poultry, or pigeon baskets, of which he is also a breeder. He is known among people for his oversized basketry creations, several of which are recorded in the Slovak Record Book. Some giant creations still adorn his garden, while others remain where they were woven. He regularly participates in craft events in the Nitra region (Craftsmen Days in Podhájska, folklore festivals in Veľká Maňa, grape harvest in Vráble, various events in Nitra), as well as at the Willow Festival in Drösing, Austria.
