She grew up in the village of Nesvady, known for its traditional craft of working with husks, where in the heyday of the second half of the 20th century, almost every household produced items from husks. Although her mother was too busy working in a nursery to engage in weaving, Valéria, along with her sister, started weaving husk braids as early as second grade. Their father helped by making earpieces for the braids, and their mother trimmed the husk leaves into strips for the next day. Valéria has been collaborating with ÚĽUV (The Center for Folk Art Production) since 1965. In her productive years, she worked as a seamstress before returning to husk crafts, honing her skills under the guidance of Maria Kesziova, a prominent husk craftswoman from Nesvady. Today, Valéria creates products using thinly and coarsely plaited husks. She is open to exploring new shapes and has mastered production techniques. She often finds inspiration in photographs, relying on her artistic imagination. Local carpenters make the necessary molds for her creations, a task that was previously done by her brother-in-law. Valéria finds joy in weaving and does it every day, even weaving during hot summer days under the shade of a plastic shelter traditionally used by the older generation of Nesvady to cultivate vegetables. In the evenings, during quieter moments, she weaves while recalling that she learnt the craft while raising her four children. Valéria dislikes the idea of idly watching television in the evenings and always feels the need to create something. Apart from growing her own maize for husks, she also collects husks from other fields when offered. The gathered materials are dried in a plastic shelter or on radiators in her cottage, as not all husks are suitable for all types of weaving. Valéria adjusts her husk crop based on the desired level of pliability, as some husks are better for fine weaving while others are suitable for coarser plaiting. She currently favors a white maize variety with long cobs and leaves. Sometimes, her finished products are dyed for added aesthetics. Valéria crafts a variety of items such as coasters, table baskets, tablecloths, slippers, and is open to exploring new designs. In 2009, she was bestowed the title of Master of Folk Art Production for her dedication to preserving and advancing the craft of working with thinly plaited husks.
