František Hubek was manually skilled from childhood, which also weighed in his choice of high school. He trained at the school of the company Slovak Folk Majolica (SĽM). Here his work as a teacher was greatly influenced by Július Polkoráb, who had previously worked as a ceramic artist at ÚĽUV. He taught art history and excellently introduced students not only to historical artistic styles but also to majolica as part of the development of ceramic culture. He mainly focused on utility ceramics and gave his students various impulses to further develop in it.

Another significant figure who influenced František Hubek was his great-grandfather, who discovered a significant archaeological find in Zohor. During the excavations, young František also participated, which particularly influenced him in the production of smoked ceramics. After his training at SĽM school, he started working directly in the company, where he learned the “tough” craft. He joined the jug workshop, where his colleagues were Miloslav Orságh, Ján Viglaš, Marián Liška, and Drahoslav Chalány – all prominent personalities who are still dedicated to production today. Due to intense production in the company in the 1980s, he excelled in wheel throwing. In internal competitions for the largest number of thrown products, which the potters organized within the workshop to break the routine, he ranked among the best. He worked at SĽM since 1982. However, he left the company in January 1990 and embarked on a journey of independent livelihood, on which he has successfully persevered to this day. Over the years, he has created a line and rhythm that sustains him through ceramics.

In the early days of self-employment, he produced majolica and smoked ceramics. Gradually, he added stoneware, chamotte, and in recent years, he also produces porcelain. He enjoys the textures that arise when processing various materials. Alongside the utility line, he also engages in figurative work. He places great emphasis on the selection of materials. He uses clay from proven sources in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Hungary. However, even this clay varies in quality from batch to batch. As he says, when the material is of good quality, work flows easily, as if he were writing. He always considers clay and glaze tests essential to see how they behave together in order to ensure the final piece is of the highest technical quality. His work is hands-on – he prefers to model the prototype himself rather than draw it. His priority in creation is to differentiate himself from others. He is always looking for something new – whether in terms of material or form. Diversity is his inner motivation.

František Hubek’s line consists of utility ware adapted to people’s current needs and desires: bowls, jugs, plates, cups for various purposes, vessels, as well as the mentioned sculptures. In his creations, he often incorporates customers’ requirements, many of whom are his regular clients, pushing traditional design towards a new expression. For example, design coffee cups for baristas and café owners meet the strictest criteria in thickness and shape demanded by this demanding group for this product. He is eager to share his experiences with the professional community, knowing that every exchange enriches people.

The title of Master of Folk Art Production in the field of ceramic production was awarded to him in 2023
