A trained heating engineer, specializing in the production of shepherd’s crooks (especially shepherds’ crooks) and folk musical instruments, began to focus on these crafts more or less out of passion. However, he had held a knife in his hand since childhood. He attributes his surprisingly smooth mastery of the craft to the cells inherited from his grandfather from Fačkov. He gained his first experience in production from the maker of whistles, J. Fulier. In the beginning, he sought guidance from experienced masters, particularly from Jozef Lenhart from Bojnice. Like him, he prefers and considers the upper Nitra type of shepherds’ crooks to be the most beautiful. He makes them from maple, cherry, and plum wood, decorating them with carving. From folk musical instruments, he has particularly mastered the production of the Detva fujara – the most widespread in Slovakia. In addition to these, he also makes 6-hole and end whistles. For their decoration, he uses traditional carving and etching with nitric acid or staining. Like every good master, he is able to tune and play the instruments he has made by hand with the help of a tuner.
