Eva Kramplová joined the ÚĽUV in 1972 as a fresh graduate of the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Bratislava, specializing in ceramics. Today, she has nearly forty years of creative work as an artist in this institution.

Eva Kramplová’s first designs for pottery products were created at the end of the 1970s. She mainly returned to ceramic sources from Pozdišovce and pottery production from Novej Bane and Brehov. However, she also experimented with Gemer pottery and drew inspiration from lesser-known sites of traditional ceramic production. She selectively reduced traditional shapes and decorations to modestly adorned products adapted to contemporary functionality.

From the 1980s onwards, in collaboration with majolica producers, she developed a completely new range of majolica for ÚĽUV, consisting largely of producers’ own patterns and, of course, designs by Eva Kramplová. She did not stray from the typical majolica shapes but, similarly to pottery, by applying a unifying element (decoration or form), she aimed to offer customers the possibility to freely choose and create their own groupings of products in each collection. “I consider it a success when a product I designed is still being produced and sold after a long time. Sometimes the manufacturer doesn’t even remember that we worked on it together.”.
