He produces replicas of historical ceramics using traditional techniques. He mixes his own clay, shapes and fires it in kilns that he built himself. He also made a kick wheel. He mostly buys his tools, but in addition to them, he uses natural objects for decoration – twigs, small branches, stones, twine, and more.

He has been involved with ceramics since childhood, experimenting with clay from a brickyard near his home during playtime with friends. He tried firing simple bowls in the bonfire during campfires and gradually learned that they need to be dried first to prevent cracking and for various other nuances. In adulthood, he continued experimenting at Pustý hrad in Zvolen, where he built two kilns and successfully demonstrated pottery firing during various events. He has been actively producing since 1985.

His range is characterized by an effort to recreate ceramics from various historical periods from prehistory to the early modern period. He uses hand modeling or clay coil building followed by slow rotation on a wheel. This method was used for pottery production in our region until the mid-15th century. He considers these approaches especially effective for making large vessels. He makes smaller vessels or cups using traditional throwing on a potter’s wheel. He fires his products in field kilns that he built himself, each with their own specific features – one achieves higher temperatures better, another creates more smoke (as one of the few today, he also produces unglazed smoked ceramics, known as black).

In his production, he not only follows the original technological processes but also retains the subtle “imperfections” of old artifacts. As he says, potters were practical people. Even if they inadvertently deformed a still-soft vessel, it did not prevent its use, and they did not discard it. This is a different approach from today’s pursuit of perfection, which erases the unique and random details that distinguish each product.

He does not make a living from ceramics currently, considering it a hobby. He passes on his experiences to other enthusiasts through workshops and courses. He is also a founding member and longtime chairman of the association Rondel, which is dedicated to the preservation of Čabraď Castle.
