He primarily carves his sculptures from lime, cherry, pear, oak, yew, and poplar wood.
The love for wood, which has been sleeping inside him for many years, perhaps since childhood, may have transformed into carving work through his initial attempts, gradually evolving into a professional carving activity. By awakening his inner self into creative taste, artistic objects and carving works – sculptures emerged, whose witty solutions and interesting themes have already appealed to a fairly wide audience.
His sculptures and several utility objects now represent him in several countries, such as in the Czech Republic, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, the USA, as well as in distant Australia, or on his own Pálffy land.
The essence of V. Oscita’s creation is mainly based on wine themes, partially also on religious themes. He very much likes to utilize shape anomalies, natural defects in wood. And he often draws inspiration from what the wood itself offers for processing, what it hides in its depths. In the end, Venantius breathes an original soul and character into him with his inner feeling.
