A replica of the historical statue of Queen Maria Theresa by Jan Fadrusz from 1897 on a horse, exhibited on Vajanského embankment in Bratislava, has its edible miniature made of gingerbread. In the days of 6.10.-10.10. 2012, the global culinary Olympics IKA Erfurt 2012 took place in Erfurt, Germany, where Andrea Pribilincova managed to win silver and at the same time open the gate to a new era of figural gingerbread art in the history of gingerbread making. She drew inspiration from the mentioned clay statue of Maria Theresa. After 273 hours of work with a technically and temporally complex procedure, a 10kg heavy and approximately 53cm tall competitive gingerbread artwork was born – a statue of Maria Theresa on a horse on a relief pedestal adorned with a portrait gingerbread painting of Maria Theresa. She got into gingerbread art for the first time in her life just before Christmas 2010 during maternity leave, so not even after 2 years she won an Olympic medal. Gingerbread quickly became her hobby from the very beginning and she managed to win several significant awards and win a few competitions with them. She is most attracted to challenging 3D gingerbreads and painted gingerbreads. Since childhood, she enjoyed drawing and painting, occasionally painting a picture or a portrait (oil paintings).
