He was born in Lučenec, lives in Silická Jablonica, and as he says himself: “I first gained experiences of folk crafts from my mother’s parents. My grandfather used to make baskets from traditional wicker, my grandmother wove carpets and braided bags and rugs from corn husks.

While they worked, old memories, stories, and tales came to life. Everything they told me gradually penetrated my consciousness and eventually left its mark. Their world, traditions sparked my interest. Thanks to my grandparents, I developed a love for the simple yet marvelous world of farming, craftsmanship, and became its follower.

Currently, in addition to basketry, I also create various items from corn husks and straw.

I learned how to make these items from rural elderly people, so I always make sure that my work carries the simple characteristics of the Gemer region.

In addition to practical items (wicker baskets, bags, corn husk mats, small wicker baskets, coasters, straw hats), I also make children’s figurines (such as snakes, lizards, birds, butterflies, cicadas, grasshoppers, snails, horses, spiders, etc.). Most of them come from my own imagination (I do not copy others’ ideas), I am inspired by what I see.

For over thirteen years, I have been teaching the heritage of folk art in craft and children’s camps, collecting folk stories, and fairy tales. Slowly disappearing rural houses, corners of the countryside are losing their naturalness, but they come alive again at least in my drawings created with a pencil.

I am a member of the Gemer Craftsmen’s Association, which operates in Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka.

Our joint endeavors and will are reflected in events and exhibitions, through which we strive to preserve our past, the cultural heritage of the Gemer farming world, the values, and the beauty of its work.”.
