She has been dedicated to the production of Easter eggs since 1994. She started by reproducing traditional twisted Easter eggs from the collections of the Slovak Crafts Cooperative. Later, she expanded her creation with new weaving techniques, new patterns, and variations. Easter eggs decorated with scratching and straw application began to be created in the 1990s during her maternity leave. Initially for her own pleasure, later based on friends’ recommendations, she went to the Slovak Crafts Cooperative and eventually wirework became her passion. At the beginning, she was greatly helped by the then main artist of the Slovak Crafts Cooperative, Janka Menkynová, who also suggested to her if she would be interested in trying eggs woven with wire, as several craftswomen were dedicated to scratching and straw application at that time. She briefly described to her the principle of bobbin lace, which is used for wire weaving eggs – and this technique intrigued Anna Valterová so much that she desired to further improve herself, eventually turning her hobby into a freelance profession. The blown-out eggs are painted with aniline or textile colors, which unlike natural plant dyes, do not fade easily in light. She seals the holes at the ends of the egg with wax and starts weaving wire in rows in a circle. She uses replicas of patterns known from the late 19th century (pine cone, diagonal, heart, chain, double diagonal, or spider web). She begins creating Easter eggs during the Christmas holidays, so that they are ready for sale at Easter. She usually uses soft beekeeping wire, which is easily moldable. In addition to weaving chicken eggs, she sometimes also weaves goose and ostrich eggs. While perfecting the bobbin lace technique she used for weaving eggs, she found it natural to transfer some wirework patterns and techniques to jewelry. Thus, her jewelry-making was born, which she devotes herself to for the rest of the year, from Easter to Christmas. She often also utilizes patterns typical of other materials, based on their natural properties and processing possibilities. Her favorite shapes include jewelry composed of squares, which was made by weaving straw, and she also draws inspiration from embroidery or basket patterns. However, inspiration is always more important to her than imitation. She prefers to use silver-plated wire for Jewelry making, which is easy to shape. When making jewelry for the Slovak Crafts Cooperative, she emphasizes the use of traditional materials, techniques, or shapes, but in free creation, she allows her imagination more freedom. The measure of quality in each product is her own satisfaction. In addition to Easter eggs, she now also weaves bottles and stones, besides making jewelry, she also creates small souvenir items or hanging ornaments. She regularly participates in events organized by the Slovak Crafts Cooperative and presents her products at other cultural events at home and abroad. In 2004, she was awarded the title of master of folk art production for the creation of twisted Easter eggs. She is a member of the wirework club Džarek, which operates at the Slovak Crafts Cooperative and brings together creators using traditional and contemporary wirework techniques.
