Shingle is an inspirational source and starting material for the author. These horses were made of sawn red spruce shingle. The distinctive wood grain in the radial cut is accentuated by brushing the surface, creating an interesting relief structure. The creative use of the aesthetic and technical possibilities of wooden shingles in contemporary applied art and product design is broad with its endless artistic possibilities and rich morphology.

The horses were created within the Open Studio of ÚĽUV, which focuses on creating in the field of product and interior design with a focus on creating utility items and home decorations based on the artistic craft tradition of Slovakia. The goal is to show that traditional materials can find application even in modern design and thus support their rediscovery in the context of contemporary design.
