On March 5-6, 2026 first workshop of the V4 project was held in Békéscsaba, named „Revitalizing Folk Crafts of the V4 Countries through the Development of the Creative Industry.“ Main goal was to encourage participants of the V4 countries to creatively design clothes inspired by traditional Hungarian folk clothing. First day was focused on getting to know fashion designer Molnár-Madarász Melinda and her creative work under the brand Meyke. In the opening presentation we had the chance to detaily explore traditional clothing from four regions of Hungary, while she also provided a detailed overview of current global fashion trends. Through examples she demonstrated particular principles, trends and contrasts of the trends over the past three years, with the intention of preventing participants from doing technical and visual mistakes in the process of designing new trendy garments. The second part of the program was all about creative work. Guided by a lecturer we made modern fashion designs inspired by the traditional clothing from the four regions of Hungary mentioned. While working in a group, Melinda showed an incredibly personal and highly professional approach, which had a very motivational effect on the participants.
We agreed that seeing different mindsets of the other project partners and their handling of the topic was highly beneficial for us, therefore we had number of inspirational informal talks about the theme. Designing fashion garments inspired by traditional clothing is a very challenging task, and every country has its own unique way of achieving it.
