Exhibiting a reserved detail, using fragile materials and, mainly, being psychologically determined, Anne Gates’s art is strictly monochromatic in nature. All of these characteristics are reflected in her collection of conceptual statues entitled Motivation. It is a series of works of art created between 2011 and 2012 from cracked eggshells that are meticulously and, at the same time, very carefully sewn together by a black thread. When creating this collection, Anne decided to analyse the word motivation. She was concerned with what motivates people, finding out that all factors connected to motivation are interlinked and intertwined. That is why individual eggs in her work are sewn together, creating a unity.
