Head calashes from the Trnava region which are preserved in the Museum of folk crafts (MĽUV) in Stupava are dated to the second half of the 20th century and represent the most valuable part of the textile collection in the museum archives. They are made of cotton canvas, tulle and chiffon and are decorated with embroidery with gold and silver threads on a carton matt. Some are completed by colourful thread embroidery, and their ornaments are emphasized with glittering beads, blown glass beads or other similar decorations; and lot of them are decorated by braided lace or sendal ribbons tied in bows. Calashes, and the symbolism of their use were of high importance. Trnava region is a place where women developed and were perfecting their creative techniques while making clothes over the centuries. Some techniques and patterns have been mastered by only a very few craftswomen.
