Luxury fabrics in traditional costumes?

Eva Hasalová

The materials and luxury textiles used for making clothing and accessories in the folklore environment far away from fashion centres wasn‘t considered luxury in the context of textile production. In the local environment there have always been materials that used to have a high and symbolic value and were thus named after fabrics used in aristocratic world. Names that during history were synonymous with luxury have gone through change and transformation and today they´ve been applied also to textile products that no longer reach a high-quality standard. What´s hidden behind the terms that have become a symbol or a synonym for luxury textiles?
