Wooden jewel as small sculpture

Wooden jewel as small sculpture

Mária Pospíšilová

The Czech with Slovak roots Miroslava Řezníková came into contact with wood in the role of a material used for art in Slovakia. She worked in Rajec (Žilina district) in the Rezbár folk art cooperative, and also studied to be a woodcarver. After completing her studies and returning to the Czech Republic, she held various jobs, practising woodcarving in the form of jewellery production for many years as a hobby. However, the desire to devote herself to wooden jewellery ended up winning, and at the beginning of the 1990s, she began to make a living from woodcarving. Her artistic jewellery work – necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pins, scarf ornaments – typically have minimalist lines, soft forms and striking wood grain.
