Year of Slovak design

Year of Slovak design

Silvia Kružliaková

In 2021, the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic announced the Year of Slovak Design on the impulse of the Slovak Centre for Design, which ÚĽUV also joined. The designer and pro-rector of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Sylvia Jokelová, was a significant factor behind the idea of the creation of the Year of Slovak Design. This idea is based on anniversaries: the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the Slovak Centre for Design in Bratislava, the 90th anniversary of the official opening of the first building of the School of Applied Arts on Vazovová street in Bratislava and also the anniversaries of people who influenced and shaped the development of Slovak design. This activity is an opportunity to connect institutions, public figures and people active in design, and also to carry out various activities and projects. The aim of the Year of Slovak Design is to present Slovak design as a valuable and attractive part of our culture and identity.
