MICHAL FRATRIČ – In full grandeur

Dominika Mačáková

Michal Fratrič is no newcomer to the art and craft scene. We know of him as a young woodcarver with a clearly defined artistic expression, and now as a holder of the award of Master of Folk Art Production. He comes from Dúbravka in Bratislava, and lives and works in Banská Bystrica. In the area of articles made of wood, he has long moved somewhere between applied and non-commissioned sculpture. Wood attracted him already when he was deciding on his choice of secondary school study. At the School of Applied Art in Bratislava, he found a place at the department of woodturning and woodcarving led by the sculptor Marko Huba. And alongside school, he also visited in Devín the studio of sculptor Peter Strassner, which had a creative atmosphere at the time. It was during these years of study that his strong artistic and value foundations were formed.
