ANGELA CZINTELOVÁ – When all threads lead to lace

ANGELA CZINTELOVÁ – When all threads lead to lace

Ľubica Poncik

“My particular interest in bobbin lace was driven by the magnificent works by master Žofia Vilímová, who was inspired by Gemer lace both in terms of motifs and patterns. Since then, I have looked at lace differently.” Angela Czintelová was born in Levoča, where she also spent her childhood. Although no-one in her family made lace, she found her own way to this craft. Her role-model was her neighbours, Mrs Sabová, apparently the last “bonnet-maker” in Levoča, who made traditional bobbin lace bonnets for the whole Spiš region. Therefore, during her studies of ethnography and folklore studies at the Faculty of Art of Comenius University in Bratislava, she focused on bobbin lace.
