The non-profit association “Passa Ao Futuro” is a Portuguese cultural research initiative whose aim is to preserve, promote, innovate, activate and celebrate the Portuguese craft sectors via initiatives which put into practice design thinking. The ambition of its members is to support socially, economically and environmentally responsible design processes and business models in this field with a vision for the future. Their work also includes detailed documentation with the aim of preserving the intangible heritage of Portuguese craftsmanship. The research data is used to produce databases of craftspeople and they act as intermediaries for cooperation between the craftsperson and the designer who brings innovation to their production. We are bringing you an interview by Jenny Duffy with the co-founder of the “Passa Ao Futuro” association on the importance of combining ancient techniques with contemporary living. It dates from 2022, and is, sadly, the last interview Fatima gave before her death.
