As part of its year devoted to natural weaving materials, ÚĽUV wants to describe in greater detail each material and technique which fall in to this wide-ranging group. Several are today at risk of disappearing, making this task all the more important. During the last three days of March, the ÚĽUV Regional Craft Centre in Banská Bystrica hosted a specialised meeting on weaving using wood splints. There are only few people today who know this ancient technique which uses split wood for weaving. The Dovala family in Klenovec, Mr Moravčík in Badín and perhaps a few individuals in Orava, Kysuce, around Zvolen, in Liptov and elsewhere… We can also include among them Florián Šavrtka from Liptovské Revúce, who was awarded the title of Master of Folk Art Production in 2020.
