Jozef Boďa. Weaving with a hint of nature

Tomáš Mikolaj

Jozef Boďa’s father worked in basket-making in the village of Dubové (Turčianske Teplice district) since he was a boy. He mastered the skill of weaving shallow oval baskets (known as fiľfas in the Turiec region) and pack baskets made of willow while he was herding cows. The money he earned from selling them went into the family coffers. He remained faithful to weaving even as an adult, and so his son was able to experience the art of basket-making first hand. Despite not working with this craft on a practical level, he regularly saw his father weaving and helped him collect wicker.
