The delicate architecture of filigree

The delicate architecture of filigree

Dominika Mačáková

The transition from architectural design to jewellery-making may appear to be a radical change of scale, but for Silvia Gálová, it is a natural search for detail. This architect who found her artistic identity in her precision metalwork is proof that craft in the hands of the young generation is losing none of its relevance. During her studies, a fascination with the traditional filigree technique took her to the workshops of foreign master craftspeople where she learnt both techniques and the patience necessary for working with fine metals. Today, she works on her art in the Ovál Studio in Nová Cvernovka in Bratislava, in an environment which enables her to continuously shape her expression as a jeweller.
