The systematic professional interest of Považie Museum (based in Žilina) in all aspects of the wireworking tradition has its roots in the collection and exhibition activities of enthusiasts in the early 1940s. However, it was only after 1990 that this interest began to take on its present form. This was when the idea of the museum’s specialisation in wireworking began to take shape alongside its new management. In 1993, it was granted a nationwide scope, and in the following year a separate wireworking department was created.
