Joy of dining

Adriena Pekárová

Dining is a topic of wide scope in design. Various materials such as ceramics, porcelain, metal and wood are usually discussed and new and unconventional materials such as plastic, leather or paper are introduced. The latter scope of materials was involved in the design of utensils, fabrics and furniture which were presented at the exhibition Joy of Dining, during the Design Forum in Nitra. Students from one secondary art school and three academies as well as professional designers created designs of furniture and table ware. The objects were arranged not to distinguish students from professionals. Exhibition displayed were selected by quality of material and workmanship as well as innovativeness, creativity, wit and ideas. Professional designers delivered small collections from serial production. Students presented only prototypes as made at the premises of a school. There were several student designs that deserve the support of producers. What makes student works so attractive is that they are funny, witty and encourage people to see things they use every day from a different perspective and to enjoy using them.
