Libuša Jaďuďová
The Museum of Folk Art and Crafts (MĽUV) in Stupava houses a number of unique artefacts. In addition to numerous other objects, their folk clothing collection comprises several tens of intricate buttons from Myjava. Having been worn on outer folk costume articles, such as a bodice, a kacabaja or a men’s camisole, especially across more affluent regions of Slovakia, the intricate buttons are made of wires from precious metals. Their function was not only practical (buttoning up), but decorative (embellishing) as well. During fieldwork research into folk costumes at Myjava and its surroundings in 1959, the Museum acquired several tens of these valuable artefacts.
