All Colours Are Important

All Colours Are Important

Lucia Zlochová

When we say the word “colour”, those who know their way around contemporary Slovak painting think automatically of Dominika Žáková. Her work captures our interest at first glance mainly through her striking and precise work with colours. Since the artist has been working with the topic of colours systematically and in a very complex manner, she sees them as a tool of sensitisation, as well as a source of frustration from the knowledge that with our human eyesight, we will probably never render the true variety of the world. Doubtless thanks to her ability to combine theoretical knowledge with a sensory experience, the artist is a particularly striking figure on the Slovak art scene.
