Paintings on glass represent one of the most striking and most beautiful forms of folk artistic production. They are evidence of the skill, advanced techniques of production and deep aesthetic sensitivity of our people. Although they are categorised as expressions of folk art, they evoke in us an artistic experience and an enjoyment of beauty. Just a few decades ago, they were a characteristic part of the folk interior. Many of them were gradually destroyed and only a fraction of the original numbers have been preserved today. We rightly consider them gems of folk art. Paintings on glass have been preserved until today – despite their fragility – which is why we may admire them in museums and galleries.
