New masters: Master of a scented craft

New masters: Master of a scented craft

Mária Mizeráková

Most of us would find it difficult to imagine a Christmas without gingerbread, the production of which in the past developed into a specialised food craft: gingerbread-making. Ivan Klučiar continues this tradition, and received the title of Master of Folk Art Production in 2020. This scented craft has a long tradition in his family. Ivan Klučiar and his wife Jarmila have been working in this field since the early 1990s. They put all their knowhow into the decoration and try to make sure the gingerbread not only tastes good, but also looks good. They are both skilled at decorating gingerbread.

They decorate them exclusively with white icing piped in an openwork pattern. The uncoloured icing both preserves the natural form of their gingerbread, and also meets their aesthetic demands.

They work intensively on the production of gingerbread in the pre-Christmas period, which for them begins at the end of September, and then again before Easter. In this period, they usually give demonstrations of decoration at craft fairs, as well as selling the products. At other times, they work at home, mainly to order. Their products have travelled to several countries, and with the exception of Antarctica, to all the continents.
