Design and shaping wood is for the moment the latest of the many names of the field of study at the Josef Vydra School of Applied Art in Bratislava, which fate brought me to exactly thirty years ago. When I accepted the offer to write something about this subject, I had a long think about how to do it. Four years of study and many years of teaching practice have prevented me from having an objective perspective. In the end, I chose a traditional layout and divided the text into three parts: yesterday, today and tomorrow. History is (un)clear. I saw the present as the period of my teaching work in the school. The future is an optimistic vision and a wish for the best.
