MARIAN PLAVEC – A wealth of knowledge about musical instruments

Martin Mešša

Marian Plavec produces musical instruments: shepherd’s flutes, fujara pipes, fipple flutes, bone whistles, and bagpipes. His grandparents were from Detva and Veľká Lúka, making his relationship to the shepherding culture of the Podpoľanie people a reflection of his family roots and the environment in which he grew up. He began producing musical instruments thanks to his contacts with important figures in this production segment in the Podpoľanie and Pohronie regions. He has been active in making musical instruments since 1978. From his position as an observer, documentarian, author of articles and books, he gradually became the object of observation and a teacher for younger producers. In 2023, he was awarded the title of Master of Folk Art Production.
