Erasmus was founded in 1987 as an exchange programme for university students. The initial idea was to give them the opportunity to try out life and study abroad. Since then, this programme has grown, resulting in the addition of the symbol “plus” in its name, and its objectives have become more varied. Today, it offers educational institutions the chance to create partnerships, to work together on international projects and to send its staff on training courses all across Europe and even beyond. The programme is divided into six main sectors, including adult education: formal, non-informal and informal.
