Pigment: the surface and substance of cloth

Pigment: the surface and substance of cloth

Linda Brassington

Indigo is a process of fermentation and colouration through oxidation. Through successive immersions, indigo builds colour from subtle, transparent blue to rich, dark blue-blacks. Indigo is more than “blue”. It is a living, “breathing” material – an organic compound with the capacity to evoke colour as matter, as pigment, as stuff.
