Use of natural wickerwork in traditional environment

Elena Beňušová

Natural wicker was very easily accessible and had quite a varied use in everyday life in the past. This material was used to make utility objects that were used in households or on the farm, as well as in building. Wickerwork was made of willow, woodchips, roots or grasses. Willow wicker used to be the most common but this varied from area to area and according to accessibility, also other types of wicker were used. Objects of everyday use were followed by decorative ones represented by various types of hanging decorations and dolls from cornhusk.
