When bees sleep on straw

When bees sleep on straw

David Turčáni

The Natural environment for bees is to live in a hollow – at best a wooden one. In the past a certain phase of a bee’s life used to be closely connected with straw. Later, it was replaced by good smelling wood and later by modern wooden beehives. After that came a new combination of materials – plastic, polystyrene or panels from compressed and glued wood chips. This non-ecological trend could be again bested by the long forgotten straw which, fortunately, still has fans today. Many of them consider straw beehives a much better and ecologic environment for bees.
