Ján Kralovič
The two artists Dávid Demjanovič and Jarmila Mitríková are not unknown on the Slovak art scene. They work using the technique of pyrography, that is the technique of cauterising pre-drawn lines using a soldering iron into a wooden board. They refer to “handyman” methods and the creation of decorative items. Their artwork, overlapping with DIY (do-it-yourself) techniques is on the one hand an homage to amateur work, and on the other corresponds ideologically with the “handyman” method, which is also used as combinations of various forms of imagery in the composition of visual scenes in the artists’ pictures. The formal side of the work and the semantic level complement each other.
