Opening windows and doors in Banská Štiavnica

Silvia Šujanová

In the second half of September 2006, the Association of Banská Štiavnica 1991 together with the Faculty of Architecture of Slovak Technical University, Slovak Mining Museum and Monument Preservation Office of SR organized another series of courses dedicated to traditional materials and techniques used for renovating buildings. This year was focused on historical wooden windows and doors. The event was divided into two basic parts: practical and theoretical. The practical seven-day course was intended for craftsmen and was led by two experienced craftsmen from Germany – Johannes Mosler (historic windows) and Hubert Labish (historic doors). Under the leadership of these lecturers, the participants were able to experiment with work on classic windows and baroque doors. The two-day theoretical seminar was dedicated to preservationists, architects, craftsmen as well as the lay public. During the event an exhibition was opened mapping the development of historic window and door fillings in Banská Štiavnica.
