Made in China – a short report from an artistic stay

Simona Janišová

Simona Janišová, whose work had been oriented mainly to the application of current industrial technologies such as CNC milling, 3D printing and modelling to ceramic materials until recently, spent this summer in China, the cradle of porcelain. There she re-discovered her relationship to clay, the basic, almost primitive, techniques of its procession, mainly thanks to the local people she was lucky to meet there and the environment which, together with the people, had shaped her work during her stay in the Chinese artists‘ residential centre Da Wang Culture Highland in the city of Shenzhen. During her work in the residential studio she was getting the exhibition „Black Land“ ready but had the time, after its opening, to visit also several significant places and institutions documenting and presenting porcelain and ceramics of the Chinese provenience.
