From a cup to an object

Helena Veličová

Ceramics and sculpture have always walked hand in hand. In the beginning, there is some shapeless mass and, at the end, there is a final hand-made object. Although sculpture is usually perceived as art, and ceramics as design, this is by no means a rigid rule. Throughout history, as well as today, there is a large number of examples when ceramics producers crossed boundaries of design, creating objects that are truly art. This article introduces collections of ceramic objects by four Slovak contemporary artists that, in a hugely inspirational fashion, cross the above-mentioned conventional boundaries.
